19 weeks and counting!
I had my ultrasound today, everything looked, as the DR put it, "Perfect!" 10 little fingers, 10 little toes...and growing great!

We are excited to announce that we will be having another GIRL! Emma is going to love having a sister close to her, just like I did. Here is to the next 20 weeks ;)

Christmas is Coming!

Emma is so excited for Christmas, or I guess you could say mommy and daddy are excited to see Emma's reaction on Christmas day! She has been helping me wrap all of the presents, putting on bows and placing them under the tree. She hasn't even tried to open one, but she will go over and point while saying, "mommy," "daddy," or "Emi." It is pretty adorable!

We made a goal to have all of our Christmas shopping done at least a week before Christmas, and we did it! I am so thankful, because it is crazy out there! On Monday, I had to run to Target to get a few things, and I couldn't wait to get out of there.

I am really enjoying being home with little Emi (that is what she nicknamed herself). One of the perks of being a school teacher is that we get 2 weeks off of school! We have been doing a whole lot of relaxing! We have slept in everyday, taken naps, watched movies, went out to lunch and just whatever we feel like. It has been so nice! We are planning on doing a Christmas craft, visiting Temple Square, making sugar cookies and watching lots more Christmas movies! We are also excited to go visit Bear Lake and hopefully go sledding!

Only 4 more days until Christmas!

Crazy Cousins

Alli came and stayed with us a month or so ago, and I am just getting to blogging about it. Its getting a lot more fun to have sleepovers, now that Emma is getting bigger and they can actually play...

We started our night out by eating at Pizza Pie Cafe. Emma and Alli loved blowing bubbles in their drinks! Then, we played outside in the playhouse, on the slides and swings. Later that night, we made pumpkin spiders,watched a girly movie, then off to bed. The next morning, I made "Peewee Herman" pancakes...fun hu? Love these two little cutie pies!

And here is a picture of me at 15 weeks...Only a month until we find out if it is a boy or girl!!

Guess What?

Emma Kate is going to be a big sister! We are so thrilled to add another little angel into our family. Emma is really excited and carries her "baby" everywhere. I keep asking her if she is going to have a "baby sister," or "baby brother," but she changes every time I ask her.

We won't find out until the first part of January what we are having, but I have a feeling it is another girl. I have been thinking all along that it is a boy, but the more I think about it...I am realizing how this pregnancy is very similar to Emma's...so we will see.

I am 13 weeks and feeling it. Food isn't appealing anymore, and my mornings and nights are rough...hopefully I will get feeling better soon. But, hey, it is all worth it!

20 months

We are still alive! It has been awhile, since I have sat down to blog, mostly because I am exhausted now that I'm back in school...but things have been really great lately, and I thought I would share a few things with you...

Emma is growing up way too fast =( She is already 20 months old! Here is a picture from her first day of school. She got her first backpack and Sketchers twinkle toes. What a cutie pie.

She loves making messes...here are a few of my favorites...

She loves her daddy and chooses him over me almost always...

I just can't get enough of this little cutie pie. She always has a big grin on her face, and she gives me the sweetest hugs and kisses. I am so thankful that I get to be a mommy to the most precious baby girl ever. I think I can call her a baby for another 4 months, right? I dont' know what life would be like without her.

I can cross #9 off of my "To-Do" list. After days and days of working, I finally finished my classroom,today! It feels so good to be done. I start back to school on Thursday, so tomorrow, Emma and I are going to have a relaxing, lazy day together. I'm talking sleeping in, naps, and going to lunch!

Here was my theme from last year,"The Wild.."

I loved it, but need change. So this year, I decided to do colors, polka dots and stripes. Here is the final project. I have a few minor things to do...but here is a glimpse of where I spend my days. Now imagine about 35 6th graders running around!

I love this time of year! Although every year I am sad to lose my students, I am looking forward to meeting my new ones. I love being a teacher!

3 Years!

Caleb & I celebrated our 3 year anniversary on August 9th! I can't believe it has already been that long, but at the same time, I can't remember what life was like before we were married. I mean, I do...but it seems like it was such a small part of my life. I am so happy that I held out for Caleb. He has been the perfect fit for me. I love our little family and wouldn't change it for anything.

We decided to continue our tradition and stayed at The Anniversary Inn, in Logan. My mom watched Emma, so we could have a fun date nigh. We had dinner at Maddox, Caleb's favorite. They even gave us a free piece of pie for the occassion!

After Caleb took me school shopping, #17. I got me a few new shirts for school, along with some cute necklaces. I won't bore you with pictures!

Then we went to the Anniversary Inn. We stayed in Juliet's Balcony. It was beautiful! Here are a few pics of our room.

I am so blessed to have married a man who loves unconditionally. Who has a strong testimony. Who always tells me I'm beautiful, even if I don't always feel it. Who is such an amazing father to Emma. Who still tells me he loves me every time we talk on the phone. Who offers to rub my feet after he has been working all day. Who works so hard to provide for our family--and make sure that we have what we need/want. Who will stop and get me a diet coke on the way home from work, just to make me smile. Who makes me laugh, daily. Who gives me the butterflies. I could go on and on..but no need to. To sum it up,
I am in LOVE, with Caleb Jon Mendenhall!

I am the happiest girl in the world!

Today we accomplished 2 things from my To-Do list...#2 Swimming at 7 Peaks, and #12 Family Pictures.

This year for family pictures, I decided to try out Foto Fly. My bestie, Lauren, had hers taken here...and I loved them...so I tried it out.

Did you know that they don't charge a sitting fee, and it is only $79 a session! They take your pictures, edit them, put all of them on a CD for you to keep, and print right at their studio! I walked out the door with 2 8x10's (free), 2 5x7's, 3- 4x6's, and 1-11x14 for $106! Talk about an awesome deal! I really thought that they did a great job, considering the price. The photographer was so cute, and made Emma smile all morning. Overall, I thought it was a great experience, and would recommend them to anyone who is wanting to get some pics. So now you probably want to see them, right? Here are a few of my favorite ones!

I went wanting one thing, at least 1 good family picture. They met my expectation.

We also got lots of adorable pictures of little Em. She was cheesin' it the whole time! I just love her little smile with her new teeth. Isn't she getting big? I can't believe it, but she is now 18 months old!

It is crazy to compare it to last year's family picture and see how much she has changed! See...look!

Kids just grow up way too fast! I guess it is time for another one =)

Going Private

Crossing Things Off

My previous post was on the 21 things I want to do before I go back to school. I have been trying to cross things off as quickly as a can. I am a huge fan of "To-Do" lists, and for some reason it helps keep me focused.

The first thing I can cross off is, #10, Re-organizing my closet. One challenge I have living at my in-laws is not having enough storage space. We went from a pretty big walk-in closet
to an small, one person closet. So, I gutted it out, bagged up some clothes and shoes to donate to the DI, and tada...here is my new organized closet!
I even organized my nailpolishes & jewelry! I love when everything has a place. It feels so good!

The second thing I can cross off the list is #6, buy new shoes. I want to Famous Footwear the other day and took advantage of their "Buy 1 get 1 1/2 off." I love the flats they have--they are perfect for being on my feet all day teaching. I am super excited to wear them!

The third thing I can cross off is #8, seeing Harry Potter.

My husband and I are huge Harry Potter fans, and have movie marathons all of the time. We finally got to see it this past weekend. My adorable parents came along and we had a wonderful time! I LOVED the movie...it was a good ending. Part of me is sad that there won't be any more...but at least I have the collection to rewatch time and time again.

I have also been working numerous hours trying to finish #9...that is a work in progress. I have chosen a new theme this year, and it is looking fabulous! I am hoping to finish it by next week...so I will post pictures soon!

PEAS

Grandma and Grandpa Mendenhall have lots of PEAS in their garden this year. Emma goes and helps herself, sits down and gobbles them up like they're candy! It makes me happy because she is getting her veggies, and makes me smile =) These are some precious moments for sure!

Happy Fourth of July!

This year we celebrated the 4th of July with a neighborhood parade, followed by a yummy breakfast and concert. There is nothing better than watching the American flag blow gracefully in the wind, listening to patriotic songs about freedom ring through the air, and watch the beautiful array of reds, whites and blues blending together. Seeing the veteran's stand tall and proud. Feeling the peace that comes from living in a free country...

Every Monday morning, with my students, I stand and place my hand upon my heart. I recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing the National Anthem. I fight back many emotions as I realize the price that has been paid for our freedom. I am reminded that Freedom isn't free...I am so thankful for the many people who have sacrificed their lives so my family and I can live in a free country. God Bless America!

Sleepover Part 3

After the princesses had their beauty sleep, they woke up and ate heart shaped pancakes, bacon and eggs!

Then we were off to the Hogle Zoo! Caleb and I thought it would be fun to see what it would be like to have 4 kids, so we took two of Emma's other cousins, Kobe and Kylie, with us. We even borrowed a family van!

When we got there, the kids were so excited to see all of the animals! Unfortunately everybody and their dogs thought it would be a great day to go to the zoo too, so it took us way too long to park. A zillion complaints later, we finally found a spot, got all of them lathered in sun screen and were off!

And at the end of the day, I can proudly say, "We survived!" It was a lot of fun & I can definitely see myself having 4 kids... someday!

Sleepover Part 2

When little girls get together, what a better thing to do than to have a "Princess Party!"

Emma's cousin, Alli, loves playing dress up and has many princess dresses, shoes, jewelry, crowns etc...and so I thought that I would go get Emma her first dress!

Emma dressed up as "Rapunzel", from Tangled.

Alli sported the beautiful "Sleeping Beauty" dress!

We also invited Emma's cousin, Bryton, who dressed up as "Snow White"

Then we were off to watch the best princess movie, Tangled!

Don't worry the princess' had major A.D.D and only lasted about 10 minutes into the movie, then they were ready to get out of their dresses and go play outside ;)but the hassle was worth the pictures!

Sleepover Part 1

A few weeks ago, Grandma Lori and Aunt Mindi came down to visit us! Emma was so excited for her first sleepover with her cousin, Alli. We planned lots of fun things to do.

The first thing we did was a picnic at the Discovery Park in Pleasant Grove. On our way we picked up Subway.

After we ate our lunch, the kids went and played at the park. This park is not like any park I have ever seen. It was HUGE! There were so many kids there, that it made me a little nervous. We survived though!

Next we had a swimming party! I had bought the cutest princess pool (since this was my sleepoever theme) and had Caleb blow it up the night before. Unfortunately, in the morning it was deflated and I had to take it back. I only cried a little ;) So I bought a bigger pool, which ended up being so fun! The kids loved it. Even little Mason!

They also had a lot of fun swinging!

Then we took a popcicle break, yummmy!

And swam the rest of the day away...

It was sure nice to have some other kiddos around for Emma to play with, I can see us doing this more often!

Its Potty Time!

Today I went to Target and picked up a Potty!

Emma has been giving me some clues that she is wanting to be a big girl, so I am going to give it a try. How wonderful would it be to not have to buy diapers anymore?

The past couple of days she has been pulling off her diaper, going into the bathroom and trying to get on the toilet! So I sat her on the toilet a few times, but nothing happened but a little "toot." She grabbed the toilet paper and wiped herself, it was hilerious! Remember, I haven't started training yet..this is all just her trying to be a big girl.

So, I am asking for some of your advice. I know there are books out there about potty training, but I just can't make myself sit down and read a "How-To" on potty training. I've talked to the pros...my mom/mother-in-law...and I now know the basics, so please give my any advice of what has worked for you!

Here is my plan:
1. Pull Ups from now on...except for over night. (overnight advice?)
2. Take her to the potty at least every hour (unless she just drank something)
3. Sing the "Potty Song," that my mom use to sing to me...
4. Sticker Chart for every time she goes #1 of #2
5. Potty Treat
6. Being consistent

So after we got home from Target today, I let her try out her new potty and she thought it was the funnest thing in the world! She loves to imitate everything that I do, so this was our first attempt. She sat and peed! Can you believe it? So hopefully this will be a positive experience! We will see...

Please leave me any advice, I need it!

Happy Birthday To Me!

Today was my 25th Birthday!

I feel so old...It seems like yesterday I was turning 16, getting my first car and being able to date. The past 9 years sure flew by!

I had a wonderful birthday! We decided to celebrate it on Friday, because this year my birthday fell on a Sunday. So, Caleb surpised me and took me shopping at the GATEWAY! I had been telling him of this new boutique called, "Bohme," that I wanted to go to...and so it came true! It was an adorable store and I walked out with a cute pair of capris and few summer shirts. He also bought me flashy new sunglasses, some running shoes and hip new purse! I feel like a supermodel (okay not really, but you know when it is fun to be dressed in new clothes from head to toe!)

We then ate lunch at California Pizza Kitchen, yum! And later that night went and saw CARS 2. Ohhh not to mention he bought me a Smart Cookie for dessert! It was the greatest day!

So then, today, my mom and dad came down to visit me!

They brought me some balloons and a jar full of some taffy's (my favorite!) They also got me a giftcard to Maurices, so I can do some back to school shopping.

We had a wonderful dinner and had some yummy birthday cake! I tried a layered cake this year, and it turned out great (thanks to my mother-in-law)...and yes the fire alarms almost went off with 25 candles ;) jk!

It was a great birthday, I am so happy to have such a wonderful family to celebrate it with!

Old McDonald Had a Farm..

I am officially on summer vacation! I made a list of things I wanted to do this summer, and one of those things was to make sure to take Emma to the Thanksgiving Point Farm. The reason I wanted to do this is because she loves animals! All of her favorite books are full of them, so I thought that this would be the perfect Saturday activity. So off to the farm we went....

I am trying to teach her the sounds that each animal makes, for instance, a cow goes, "Mooooo!" and pig goes, "Oink"...so of course I walked around the farm imitating their sounds...trying to help her make the connection. She didn't really pay much attention to me, but really loved the animals! She had fun climbing on the gates, and seeing all of the animals, but did not love her horse ride. She got scared and started crying!

To end our trip on a positive note, we went and got an ice cream cone. I even let her hold it all by herself! Wowzers! That was messy, but I couldn't resist to take a picture!

If you haven't been to the Thanksgiving Point farm, you need to go! It was a cheap, fun, Old McDonald day!

Candy!

Emma has discovered her favorite candy, Salt Water Taffy! I bought some the other day and let her have a bite. Ever since then, she has been wanting more (she signs this to me)! I wanted to see what she would do if I dumped all of the candy in her lap...so I did... she made a suprised, "Ohhh!" face and started handing me pieces of candy to open. It was adorable...What a cutie pie!

I never would have thought that I would be going to a graduation for my little Emma at this age, but today was "Daycare Graduation!"
Emma has the best teacher, Mrs. L. I want to brag about her for a minute...

I am sure that you working mothers out there, understand the anxiety of leaving your children with someone else all day, while you work. It caused me so much anxiety to find someone who I felt good about. I had been told how great Mrs. L was, and now I see why!

Every day when I drop Emma off, she is happy! She is excited to go play with her friends and learn. She is feeds them 3 meals a day, plans meaningful learning activities (which always include a craft), plans fun activities for all of the holidays and even holds a graduation ceremony!

It was so fun to see my little baby be a "big girl" for the night. She loves her friends, she loves Mrs. L, and it makes me feel so happy to know that my little girl is being taken care of.

Of course, I am looking forward to being able to stay home with her, but for now...I can honestly say, "It is okay to take Emma to daycare!" She is doing great! We are so blessed to have found Mrs. L. Happy Graduation sweetie!

Sweet Moments

Lately I have been pondering about the sweet moments before my little Emma drifts off to sleep. I love that she is 16 months old and still wants her mommy to rock her na-night. Our nightly routine is not something that I take for granted, infact, I try to take it all in. Last night, I really just took it all in...

She loves playing in the tub tub. All I have to say is, "Emma, you ready for the tub tub?" She instantly purses her lips into an, "Ohh" face, and runs into the bathroom and attempts to lift her stubby little leg over the tub(while still fully dressed). We always make sure to fill it full of bubbles, alphabet letters and tub crayons.

After she has had plenty of play time, we get her lathered in sweet smelling baby lotion and put on her cute pjs.

As I rock her to sleep, she gracefully runs her little fingers through her hair. This is her way of soothing herself and has been since she was a newborn. I watch as her eyelids become heavy and drift off to sleep. She fights it at first, wanting to make sure that I am still there. She then reaches up to my face and pats it, with the most gentle little pat. I kiss her on her forehead and tell her I love her for the 100th time that day! I watch as her binky moves up and down, and kiss her little button nose. I can't help but rub her tiny, pink painted toes and adore how perfect she really is!

I sing her a few lullabyes and end our nightly routine with a prayer. I thank my Heavenly Father for trusting me with this beautiful baby girl. Needless to say, being a mommy brings me so much joy and I am beginning to get a glimpse of how Heavenly Father feels about us, as his children.

Long Time...

So it has been a long time since I have sat down to blog! I have been caught up in our ever-changing life...and haven't really wanted to sit down and write it all out. So tonight is the night that I am going to sit down, and let it all out.

Things at the Mendenhall's house have been crazy! Here's a quick recap of the past few months.

1. My sweet Emma Kate turned 1! She is almost 16 months now, so that shows you how long it has really been. She had a wonderful PRINCESS birthday! She is really just growing up way too fast. It is hard for me to believe how time really does fly! It honestly felt like yesterday that I was pregnant, delivered her 5 weeks early and was a new mommy. Now, I can proudly say, that I am a mother of a toddler.

She is such a spunky little girl! She is happy and loves being around people. She likes her toe nails painted, yet loves digging in the dirt. It is fun to see that she has a little bit of both Caleb and I in her. Speaking of having part of Caleb's personality...on her birthday, my parents bought her this adorable Barbie 4 wheeler! She hopped on, and without even thinking twice...stood up, stuck out her tongie and pushed the gas! SHE LOVED IT! For those of you who don't know, my husband is quite the daredevil and loves riding his motorcyle! Watch this video for proof! It is so funny!

2. We moved out of our condo and are now officially landlords!We found a cute family to live in it, while we save for a down payment! My in-laws, are so kind to let us live with them.

It has been hard for me to go from having my "own" house, to sharing someone else's. I have a hard time relying on others, I like to be independent. But I am going to make the best of it, and remember that it will pay off. Lets face it here, I am not the one who is making this huge sacrifice...it is my in-laws!
These next 3 years will be a trial of our patience, but in the long run, it will be worth it. We will be debt free and have a chunk of change to put towards a real home...with our own yard and connected garage! Yahoo! Oh the positive side, Emma has a huge yard to play in-which we didn't have at the condo. I really miss my own kitchen...and being able to cook whatever/whenever I want to...but oh well!

3. I am a single mom...okay not really, but Monday thru Thursday I am! My hubby is now working in Kemmerer, WY! Unfortunately, that is the only work their company has right now, so he goes where there is work! It is not easy for either of us...but we are staying faithful that things will get better, and that they will be able to find work closer to home. So we spend a lot of time on Skype, and having mushy phone calls (like we are dating again!)

4. School is only 6 days away from being out for the summer! I am looking forward to lazy days with my little Em! Walks with the stroller, playing in the park, picnics, swimming, zoo, naptime etc! The list goes on...I get to be a STAY AT HOME MOMMY!(for 3 months)I am looking forward to spending more time with this littler cutie pie =)

This year we got to celebrate Thanksgiving with the "Petersens!" I think there is just something about eating at your mom and dad's house that is special...we had a fabulous day full of yummy food and wonderful family!

My mom cooked such an amazing dinner, and you wouldn't even know she is going through what she is right now. She is a go-getter and doesn't let her cancer stop her from living. I love her so much and I am grateful that Heavenly Father has prolonged her life so we can cherish her through special days like today.

I love seeing my family and I am thankful for each and everyone of them. We were missing Dusty a lot, and couldn't help but think what he was up to. He made it through his first holiday away from home. I'm sure in France he was eating pasta for dinner, instead of turkey.

Emma was such a good eater and got plenty of hugs from all of her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins! She is a lucky girl =)

De-Cluttered and Re-Organized!

So, I couldn't take it any longer, I had to do something to my laundry room. It was driving me bonkers! So, Caleb, being the sweet husband he is, spent all day turning our laundry room into a usable, clean, organized room! Seriously, we have lived in our Condo for two years now, and hadn't even taken the plastic wrap off of our washer and dryer. So here is a before and after picture of my laundry room. Don't judge me for my sloppiness. This was the one room that I would just shut the door ;) but not anymore!

So little Emma is growing up way too fast! Here are a few things about her...

She loves standing, and pulls herself up on everything.

She is crawling all over the place, and when I say that, I mean it. She loves crawling through the bottom of our coffee table to get to the other side. It is hilerious!

She is now saying, "Maaa ma and baa ba." We are still waiting for, "Daaa da"

She laughs at everything!

She swims in the tub, and spends more time standing at the edge then sitting.

She loves food, even though she still doesnt have any teeth...she doesn't let that stop her.

She fits in 12 month clothes already, the little chunker!

She is now 9 months old!

I can't imagine life without her! She makes everyday brigher, and makes me realize how much I LOVE being a mommy!

Summer Fun

Emma Kate went swimming for the very first time on July 5th! She absolutely loved it, too. We decided last minute to go to 7 Peaks and it was awesome! Lindsey and Knowll and my brother, Dusty, came down and went with us. Emma loved being in the water, and when she wasn't she just had a good old time chillin under the umbrella with her binki. Daddy picked out her swimming suit, and we thought she looked adorable! There will definitely be more pool days ahead!

Missing our Missionary

Dusty will be leaving on his 2 year LDS mission one week from today! I can't believe that my little brother is all grown up and will be living alone, clear across the world, and sharing the gospel with the French. He is anxious, and well prepared. He will be giving his talk in church this Sunday, and I am very excited to hear him speak. I am having mixed feelings, because I really haven't ever had someone close to me-leave for so long. I know he is doing what is right, and that our family will be blessed, it is just hard to think what it will be like without him here...
So, what I have decided to do is take a picture of little Emma every month along with some "French message"...and send it to him...that way he can watch her grow up. When he gets back, she will be 2 1/2! That is crazy...who knows, maybe we will be working on baby #2 by then!

One Year Older...

That's right...I turned 24 on June 26th! Caleb planned such a fun surprise party for me. First of all, he took me to the Buckle and let me shop til I dropped! I got some much needed (and wanted) clothes...

Then he had all of my family meet at my favorite restaurant, Hamiltons...we ate a wonderful dinner and enjoyed yummy Bananas Foster!

Afterwards, we stayed at Anniversary Inn...We got to stay in the "TiPi" room...it was so fun to escape from life for a little bit and pretend we were somewhere far away! When we got there, there were red and white rose petals scattered on the floor, our very own robes, chocolates, apple cider, bath bubbles etc...it was simply amazing!

I am one happy girl!

5 Months...already!

My little Emma is already 5 months old! She is growing up WAY too fast! She is so much fun and is my best friend. I love staying home and enjoying her everyday! My favorite time is in the morning... I go in her room and she is talking to herself, cooing and smiling like crazy!

She is now belly laughing, rolling and trying to crawl! She is eating baby food and rice cereal, yum yum...she holds her own bottle and she is getting chubby =) She likes playing with her little dolly, and watching Baby Einstiens!

We love to go on walks, and she really enjoys being outside and exploring the beautiful world around her. She likes grass, well sort of...

Caleb and I are so blessed to have this beautiful girl in our lives!

Stay at Home Mommy

I am officially a stay at home mommy...for the summer! It is so fun to be with my little Emma all day, everyday! My favorite is just getting her up in the morning and snuggling her...rather than being rushed to make it to work! She is so happy and beginning to change so much. Her personality is definitely coming out. She is smiling all the time now...which makes me smile too! We love taking naps together, reading books, going for walks with the stroller, going shopping, taking baths, watching Wonder Pets and Backyardigans, and just being best friends all day. She is now 4 months old, I can't believe how time flies, but it sure is fun! I've got to cherish each day because school is just around the corner...Here is some pictures I've snapped lately, enjoy!

3 Months

My little baby girl is already 3 months old! Holy moly, time flies! She is growing and changing everyday, and according to everyone she looks just like me! Some fun things that she is doing now:
1. Smiling at me being silly, not just in her sleep, or when she is gassy!
2. Cooing & Sqeaking...she talks up a storm!
3. Following with her eyes wherever I go.
4. Only waking up once to eat, woo woo!
5. Going back to sleep after she eats in the middle of the night, another woo woo!
6. Sucking/playing with her hands
7. Watching Baby Einstiens and a few cartoons and really staying interested
8. Loves bath time, and her pink rubber ducky!
9. Loves when mommy and daddy give her all of their attention!
10. Loves getting her hair combed

She is so fun! I just love to play with her, kiss her all over and snuggle all night long! She is such a blessing and I am really looking forward to our summer vacation together, every day just me and Emma!

Easter

We went up to Bear Lake for Easter...it was so nice to get away! It is a lot different traveling with little Emma, I realize that baby's really do come with a lot of baggage =) Our car was full of Emma's stuff! We bought her a pack n' play so we can stay away from home. Emma is the youngest cousin and so she couldn't do the Easter egg hunt, so I snagged a few eggs and snapped a picture! She made the cutest little Easter Bunny!

Working Mommy

So the days of staying home being a "supermom" are over! My 6-weeks of maternity leave are sadly over. I went back to work 2 weeks ago...another reason why I haven't blogged for so long! So here is a little glimpse of whats been going on in the life of Cami...

Going back to school was really tough! I basically cried my little self silly during the 6 weeks I was home, and when the time finally came, I just sucked it up and accepted that I am not the only "Working Mommy!" I decided I could dwell on the fact that I will not be with my little Emma all day, or just change my attitude and realize that that I am a great mommy, I just have to make the best of our nights and weekends together!

I have been so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends-who are mothering Emma while I finish this school year...they really don't know how much it means to me to know that she is getting loved and taken care of!

Going back to school has been fun though! I never thought I would say this, but I really did miss the kids and teaching...I realized how much little kids can brighten your day and make you feel appreciated and loved. Not only am I Emma's mom, but I am kind of 27 kids' mom from 8-3. They welcomed me back with "tissue paper flowers," smiles and hugs... it was like I never left! We are busy busy busy preparing for the Core Test...only 2 more weeks!

So my days are exhausting, but productive...they start about 5 a.m. and end about midnight..If I am lucky, I will get about 4-5 hours of sleep...but it doesn't matter to me, because I know that I get to wake up, feed & cuddle my little baby girl... and when I look into her beautiful eyes, somehow she reassures me that everything is going to be "okay!"

I guess I am writing this post more as a reflection of the feelings that I have had lately... I will strive not only to be an inspiring teacher and loving wife, but most importantly a wonderful mommy! I love my life and everything that God has blessed me with. I am truly blessed...

My little brother received his mission call tonight, and he has been called to Toulousse, France! He took 5 years of French in high school, and visited his senior year too...so he already has a special place in his heart for the people. He will leave on July 28th, and will obviously be speaking French. We are all super excited and know that he will touch many lives as a missionary! He has such a strong testimony and is READY to spread the gospel!

Advice Please...

1. Emma is mixing up night and day...this is really beginning to wear on me, and I don't know how it is going to work when I have to go back to school! I can't be pulling all-nighters and be expected to work all day along with all of the responsibilities of a wife/mommy! So lets hear what worked for you and your kiddos...maybe I am missing some mommy magic!

2. Does anyone have an elliptical that they love? I am looking into buying one, but I want to make sure it is exactly like I want...basically I like it to smooth & quiet! Also-where is the best place to purchase exercise equipment like this?

The Rollercoaster Week

So...for those of you who are interested, here is my delivery story. After my 34 week appointment and a few days in the hospital, I was diagnosed with mild preeclampsia...I was put on bedrest. I was enjoying the bedrest and looking forward to being lazy and sleeping all day until Wednesday Feb. 3...that is when it all started.

I was getting ready to go to parent/teacher conferences when I started feeling all light-headed, dizzy, blurry vision, headache and like I was going to pass out. I just didn't feel right. I called Caleb at work and told him what was going on. He of course started freaking out and didn't know what to do. He called my sister-in-law, Kristen, and asked her to come and be with me. I called the women's center and told them the symptoms I was experiencing, they were obviously concerned and asked me to come in asap. There was no way I was going to get behind the wheel...so Kristen dropped what she had going on and took me! What a sweetheart!

As soon as I get there, they call me back and my doctor basically said I was showing severe symptoms of preeclampsia and that he was highly considering delivering me early! He sent me over to the hospital to be monitored for 24 hours. I obviously couldn't do parent teacher conferences...Meanwhile, I got my blood taken, IV's put in, 24-hour urine etc...not fun or comfortable! Lets just say that all the nurses were getting on my nerves...because according to them- I looked great! Blood pressure was low- and I could manage my "headache" at home. I was furious! But... low and behold my tests came back out-of-wack...after much consideration of weighing the pros/cons...Dr. Allen decided to induce me.

I was moved back up to labor and delivery at 9 p.m. Thursday night. Started Pitosin at 10:00, Epideral 11:00, Broke my water at 11:30...and somewhat drifted in and out of sleep until they checked me at 3:00 a.m. I was dialated to a 6. Checked me at 6:00 a.m. and was dialated to a 9. I immediately began freaking out! I also started noticing that I could move my legs, and could feel my contractions (but figured this was normal)...The Doctor came in at 6:30 and had me start pushing. They all said it usually takes 1st time mom's a few hours to push-but I let them know I was NOT going to be like that! I got a hang of what it was like to push really quick and 24 minutes later...our little Emma was born! She was taken to the NICU and Caleb spent most of the day with her. Meanwhile, the doctor was trying to deliver the placenta. Didn't happen! He had to manually remove it (tear it away from my uterus) This was more painful than the birth...which I felt completely! The epidural did not work! Then I got stitched up...also felt! Lets just say-I was completely miserable.

I spent that day drugged up on Magnesium to prevent a seizure. I didn't get to see Emma until that night, which was really hard for me. The next day my IV and catheter was removed (thank goodness) and I was feeling much better! I was in and out of the NICU holding/feeding Emma. She was doing great =)

I got discharged on Sunday and Emma got to come home Monday! The nurses said that it is very rare for a 35-week old baby to get to come home after 3 days, but she is a fighter! She is soooo strong and shows me everyday how special she really is. It is amazing to me how much you can love someone, so quickly. Heavenly Father was with me throughout the whole process and I felt his tender love and care the 5 days I was in the hospital. I am so thankful for my healthy little girl...she is truly a miracle!

Emma Kate Mendenhall was born on February 5, 2010 at 6:54 a.m. She weighed 5 lbs 6 oz and was 18 inches long! She is one beautiful little girl and we are so blessed to have her join our little family...here are a few pictures. Enjoy! I'll post about the whole experience when I am not in the hospital =)

BEDREST!

Soooo, things have been pretty busy lately with me and Baby Emma. Last Wednesday I went in for my 34 week appointment, and my blood pressure was high, I had protein in my urine and some pretty serious swelling, blurred vision, headaches etc... I was showing symptoms of preeclampsia.

Doctor was concerned, so he had me get a steroid shot to help her lungs start developing quicker, in case they needed to deliver me. I got the steroid, which was not fun, "little poke" should be rephrased to, "I'm going to stab this into your hip muscle...it hurts like a mother"...so that night I woke up with stabbing chest pains and was going numb from head to toe, sooooo we headed into the hospital. They hooked me up and did a NST, figured it was a reaction to the shot and sent me home.

I worked the next day and was ready to recieve round 2 of steroid, but wanted to speak to my Doctor first...Soooo after I told him what happened, he decided not to give me the second shot and sent me back to Labor and Delivery for some more tests. I had to the 24 hour urine and some blood work. They also did a NST and chest x-ray.
They put me on bedrest until today, when I would meet back to go over the test results....and

I am now diagnosed with preeclampsia! There isn't any way to prevent it and the only way to get rid of it is to have your baby. There are serious side effects that are scary, but I will let you look that up. Doctor told me that I probably wouldn't go until my due date and that they want to keep her in there as long as they can... If I get bad enough, they will have to induce me early and probably a c-section. On the positive side, I get to stay home =) I think it is a blessing, because I was so stressed at work and just super overwhelmed. I would die if anything happened to my little girl after all of this time... what is one month of taking it easy-so she can be healthy? Worth everything to me!

Sooooo, who knows when I will have the baby? Sometime between now and March 10! I also posted a picture...please don't mind my fat face! This is me at almost 35 weeks.

The Countdown is On!

I can't believe there is only 6 weeks until baby Emma joins our family! We are so anxious to meet her, and feel so unprepared at the same time. Caleb and I went to Babies R Us the other day and talk about overwhelming...there are so many bottles, binkies, medicines, carseats, mattresses...the list goes on and on! I feel like I missed the college class that teaches you "what things are best for the baby."

Some of the lovely symptoms I am now enduring are...
1. Anxiety over being "ready"...I have a lot of deadlines at work that I need to meet-lets just say as soon as I am done with the lesson plans, she can come!
2. Swelling of my legs, feet, ankles, toes etc...not cute!
3. Because of reason # 2, I can't wear any cute shoes...I'm basically down to one or two pairs.
4. Depression- I can't wait to be able to wear cute clothes =)Maternity clothes are becoming less comfortable. Hopefully I can squeeze into them for 6 more weeks.
5. Hungry all the time! I get hungry more often, but can't eat much at one sitting..
6. Body Aches- All over!
7. Heartburn...it wakes me up everynight!
8. Peeing all the time...makes it even harder for a good nights sleep.
9. Patience- I just want my little girl!!

I don't mean to sound like I am complaining, because I am truly grateful for the chance that I have to become a mother and start this journey with Caleb. I know he is going to be the best daddy and already loves his little Emma so much =)

The Worst Test Ever!!

So today I took the long, dreaded test, the Praxis 2! It is a test that teachers have to take by the end of their 3rd year of teaching to move from being a provisional teacher to a level 2 teacher. Lets just say that I have put it off for a reason..it was terrible! The test wouldn't have been too bad if it wasn't timed, but I only have 2 hours to completely finish 4 case studies-all of which include 3 essay questions with 4 parts each...along with 24 multiple choice questions! It was the most intense stress I have felt in a long time...plus its not a cheap test either! So during the test, my stomach was all cramped and my little princess was moving like crazy...she also had the hiccups...so of course I was distracted. I was so happy to finish on time...I am the world's worst test taker-and never ever finish when under pressure, so we shall see. I have to wait a whole month to see if I have to retake the stupid thing. I am just glad that I can check that off my list of things to do before the baby comes! Thank goodness...next thing on the list- Prepare 6 weeks of detailed lesson plans =( BOO!

A sneak peek!

So, we are working on the baby's room...and it has been SO much fun! You all know me, I am so girly...so I am no doubt making her room the same way. We went to Home Depot and picked out the paint. I chose two different pinks, "Princess Power and Fuscia Kiss!" Caleb did such a great job painting it. Then, I really wanted a cute light, and I was able to find a pink-jeweled chandalier! We ordered the dresser that matches the crib we are getting. It also serves as a changing table. The bedding is totally girly too...so here is a sneak peek! Lots more to do, but coming right along! Only 3 more months, yah! Hope you like it =)

26 weeks

A lady said to me the other day, "You're getting quite round!" I wanted to say something mean back, but I realize that she is right! As you can see...I am getting round! My tummy can't stretch any farther, seriously! My belly button is on the verge of popping and I HURT SO BAD! I can't believe I still have 3 months to go, is that possible? On the positive side, I am feeling my little princess all day, everyday! It is fun to feel her squirm around...I am getting very anxious for March 10th!!! Wish me luck everyone =)

Christmas is coming...

Caleb finally let me put up our Christmas tree today =) We didn't have one last year, so I decided to save some money and buy us our FIRST CHRISTMAS TREE! Thank goodness for Hobby Lobby's 50% off sale! I saved close to $300! Now, I have to go shopping and get some presents to put under it! I am so behind...I look up to those people who are already finished with their shopping and can just relax!

Just like everyone else, I love this time of year! My favorite thing, besides having 2 weeks off of school, is sitting down in my sweats with a cup of hot chocolate, reading a book and watching the snow fall! I love the family parties, yummy food, old movies and music... Overall, it seems like everyone is happy at this time of year, and thinking of others, which is how it should be all of the time...

Check out our sweet witch rockets we made! We had a contest to see who could make their witch fly the highest...now I just wanted my witch to be cute, I didn't care how high it flew (which it flew 100-150 feet). Now Caleb on the other hand, built his own rocket launcher and his flew way higher! It was a lot of fun making the witches...notice mine has eyelashes, heels and a boa! She is the classiest witch there ever was...

Next, I couldn't resist these cute Halloween costumes! I was "Sugar Babies," and Caleb was "Sugar Daddy!" He didn't want to wear the costume, but I told him at least for a picture!

One last dress-up for me! Yesterday, I dressed up as Cleopatra. Our 6th grade team decided to do Ancient Egypt theme, and this is what I came up with. I spray painted my hair black, and it took FOREVER to get out! Never do it!! We sewed the costume, pianted a snake to wrap around my arm...it was a lot of fun, and the kids loved it! I also had to include a picture of my friend, Cassie, she dressed up like Miss Frizzle, from the Magic School Bus series! Doesn't she look great =) The only downside to being a teacher during Halloween, is that you kinda feel like an idiot when you are all dressed up, driving down the road, the day BEFORE Halloween...I'm sure everyone is thinking, "SHE IS CRAZY!"

So Much To Be Grateful For...

Sundays have to be the best day of the week! Caleb and I get to sleep in, eat breakfast together, read, relax, go to church and be uplifted, spend time with family and prepare for the upcoming week. I have spent a lot of time today, thinking about the many things I am grateful for, and sometimes don't appreciate them as much as I should.

My Husband

- He is such an amazing, patient, kind, loving, funny, Christ-like person. He takes such good care of me, and gives me everything I need. He has been extremely patient with me as I have been pregnant, never complaining about taking me to "Cafe Rio" again... and I can already see that he is going to be a perfect daddy to our little girl. I love him with all of my heart!

My Job

- Teaching children has to be one of the most rewarding jobs there is. They are so innocent and life through their eyes' is perfect. They surprise me everyday and make me laugh. I am grateful I get to spend my days around happy little children.

My House

- With the weather cooling down, I have been thinking about this a lot. We have lived in our condo for almost a year now, and I am so glad that we have a nice, warm, place to come home to each day.

My Family

- Although I live so far away from my family, I know they love me. They are always so nice to call me, visit me, and tell me they love and care about me. I am especially thankful for my parents, who have guided me throughtout my life, and encouraged me to become my best.

My Baby

- I am beginning to realize I have been so blessed to be able to bring a little girl into this world, and that Heavenly Father has trusted me with her. Caleb and I are anticipating becoming "mommy and daddy," and know that life is only going to get better! We can't wait to have our own little family.

Life

- Life is so very fragile, and you never know what tomorrow will bring. I am happy that I have this life to live and want to make the most of it!

I have so much to be grateful for!

We have been patiently waiting for our 20 week ultrasound, to see whether we are having a boy or girl...and we are happy to say we are going to have a lil

BABY GIRL!

It was such an overwhelming, sweet experience, seeing her moving around, sucking her thumb and crossing her little legs! She has such a cute profile =) Her heart, brain, kidneys, arms, legs, palate, and toesies are all normal! I am so excited to be able to buy cute little dresses & bows! Everyone in my family was thinking I was for sure having a boy, but I had this motherly-instinct that it was a baby girl. I am looking forward to wrapping her in a blanket and rocking her in my arms...I hope that she loves me as much as I love my mommy! I am officially half way there =) yeah! Only 20 more weeks until we get to meet our little princess!

18 Weeks

So I've a had a few people who wanted a "Belly Picture,"...so here I am at 18 weeks. Yesterday, my little nephew said, "Wow, your baby is getting bigger!" I couldn't help but laugh, we all know what that means =) I haven't felt it move for sure yet, a few maybes, but hopefully soon! I went to the Dr. on Tuesday and the heartbeat was in the 150's, which he said was completely normal. Good news, I am not turning into a SWINE! The results came back negative, so I am just out with the rotten old flu! I am staying inside, hoping to be able to go back to work on Monday. I can't wait to start feeling better! I heard the 2nd trimester is supposed to be the time when we feel the best, and so far, I haven't felt it! Although it is rough being prego, I am so grateful to be able to have a baby and start my own little family =)

Swine Flu?!

So, I have some not so happy news....I may have the SWINE FLU! Now, first of all, I know that being a teacher I am around runny nosed, non-handwashing, germ spreading kids all day, and that increases my chances of catching anything! I literally use hand sanitizer 10 times a day, and wash my hands (while singing the ABC's) every chance I get! I was upset to find out that there were 2 confirmed cases in another 6th grade class...and then come to find out, one of my own students had it! Ahhhh =( So, to make matters even worse, my mother-in-law was extremely sick this weekend when we went up to the cabin, and she also has been diagnosed with the SWINE FLU! So, meanwhile, I am feeling sluggish, headache, SORE SORE throat, coughing, vomiting, anxiety, chilling...you name it! I am freaking out! I just happened to have my 18 week appointment today, and my Dr. immediately tested me. He basically shot liquid up my nose and caught all the drippings (yucky)...and it was uncomfortable! But, I do not know for sure if I have it...that takes time. I am now taking a pill to help me fight it off! Lets hope that I just have a really bad cold! I'll keep praying!!! On the positive side, I scheduled my ultrasound for Oct. 20th! I CAN'T WAIT! I just want to know what I am having, so I can start buying clothes, getting the room ready, and sewing some blankets with my new sewing machine. Almost 1/2 way there =)

Fall Fever!

So I am totally ready for fall! It is my favorite time of the year...I love the leaves changing colors, the crisp, cool, fresh air, the pumpkins, the baking, the holidays...everything! So yesterday, I put out all my fall decorations...I probably should've waited until October, but I couldn't! Another thing I love about fall is soup! Today I am making baked potato soup...can you say yummy! I am so glad we live in such a beautiful state where we get to enjoy all 4 seasons...Happy Fall everyone!

Caleb the Builder

So, my sister has nicknamed my husband, "Caleb the Builder," which I think fits perfect. I am so lucky because I married someone who is extremely creative and handy. I can draw something up and ta-da he builds it. Since we have been married he has managed to build our entertainment center, shadow boxes, and bookshelves for my classroom. He enjoys doing it too, which is a plus! We had this blank wall that needed something, so I drew it up and he got to work...He just finished the shadow boxes and we got them hung up! I have to show them off because he did a great job! I am so thankful to have myself a handy man =)

I had to post this hilerious list of reasons of "You know you're a teacher when..." All of these make me giggle and are absolutely true. Being back to school is great, I really do enjoy teaching. Here is a glimpse for you to see what it is like! Hope you enjoy =)

How Do You Know You Are a Teacher?

Back-to-School

So after a way too fast summer, I am officially BACK TO SCHOOL! I have been working in my classroom for the past 2 weeks, trying to make it a learning environment =) you would be amazed at how much time it really takes us teachers to get everything ready for the little munchkins. Caleb surprised me and made me some cute benches for my reading corner, and he let me pick out the cute colors! They look great...The boxes actually pull out and are additional chairs! I made the curtains with my new sewing machine. Today was the first official day of school and I have 28-6th graders. Most of them are really nice and cute (I have some work to do with a few attitudes)...for the most part it feels good to be back to work. I think it will help keep my mind off of being nauseated...I only throw up before school now (almost done with 1st Trimester yea!)
One other thing Caleb made was this cute little metal girl. It is for my sister-in-law's preschool. He was so proud and says after he made it that he wanted a little girl! He is getting really excited about the baby too...We think it looks like my little niece Alli Shae =)

Happy Anniversary!

Caleb and I have officially been married for a year! We are no longer considered "NEWLYWEDS"...It is crazy to think how fast time has flown by! That is just how it is though, when you want something to hurry, it takes forever and when you want something to last longer, it goes way too fast! We have had such a wonderful year of loving, learning & growing together.
As I was thinking of some of the things that we accomplished-I realized how much better life is being married to your best friend. We bought our first house, I taught a new grade-at a new school-in a new district, Caleb completed 2 semesters of college, he learned how to Weld and now is the "Welder" at Allstate, We both turned a year older, we took our honeymoon and we are expecting a baby in March! Yes that is right, we are going to have a baby! I am 10 weeks and feeling all the lovely symptoms of being pregnant. Some days are harder than others, but I am determined to keep a positive attitude and remember it will all be worth it =)
We are so blessed and I just want Caleb to know how much I love and appreciate all he does! I can't wait to see what life has to bring us...I love you babe =)

Hawaii

So we finally got to go on our LONG AWAITED HONEYMOON! Yes, it has almost been a year since we tied the knot...but I wasn't going to let Caleb get off the hook, we booked it shortly after we got married, so there was no room for "excuses." It was all I could think about for months! So let me tell you a little bit about our adventure. We started off in Maui...while there we went to a Luau, a dance show, helicoptor tour of the whole island (we saw the Jurassic Park waterfall), went to the Aquarium, drove to Hawaii's inactive volcano (which was 30 degrees and gorgeous), and finally snorkeling. I loved snorkeling, we saw so many beautiful, colorful fishies! Then we took a itsy bitsy plane to Kauai. It was so scary, seriously you could feel turbulance the whole time and it sounded like it was going to blow up! People always say how beautiful Kauai is, and they are not lying! It is so green, and tropical. Caleb and I definitely want to go back. While we were in Kauai, we went kayaking, hiking, ziplining. Caleb went SKYDIVING! He wants to tell anyone who needs an adventure to go skydiving! HE LOVED IT! We also enjoyed laying on the beach reading. Caleb read a whole book! We had a great trip and can't wait until our next trip...maybe we will take you with us?!

Summer Break

So, it has been awhile since I have updated my blog...Because I live far away from family and friends, I really want to try and do better. So I have been out of school for just over a month now...I am really enjoying my time off. Everyone asked me, "What are you going to do," "Aren't you going to get bored?" Honestly, I haven't got bored and have had time to get caught up on some cleaning and organizing. Of course sleeping in and relaxing too! One thing I have noticed is that I like to go shopping...Caleb isn't too happy about that ;) Let see, Dusty graduated from Bear River High School, Lindsey from Utah State University...I turned the big "23" and we are getting ready for our long awaited "Honeymoon" to Hawaii! Summer has been so much fun, we've got to spend a lot more time with our family's.

Get-a-Way Weekend at the Cabin!

This past weekend, my family and I were able to escape from our busy lives and go to Caleb's family's cabin in Bear Lake! It was freezing cold, but nothing is better then sitting next to the fire, looking out at the lake. It was b-e-a-utiful! There was a bit of a snow storm on Sunday but other than that, we were able to enjoy the outdoors. Lindsey and Knowll came along for a fourwheeler ride...it was quite an adventure. We rode around the whole back side of the mountain. Just when we were getting ready to head back, Caleb decided to leave the trail and, "see how far we could make it up the mountain..." BAD IDEA! We got stuck in about 3 feet of snow. Knowll and Caleb worked on getting us out (good thing we had a shovel and a winch), while Lindsey and I threw snowballs at them. We watched movies, played games and ate lots of yummy food! Then, on Saturday night, we went to my dad's Choir concert at the Utah State Kent Concert Hall. He is part of the American Festival Choir directed by Craig Jessop (the former Tabernacle Choir guy)...it was awesome! They sang in German-our favorite song was, FORTUNA. Overall it was a great weekend to spend with my husband and family. I can't wait to do it again! Hopefully soon =)

So....blogging must be the cool thing to do now days, because I swear everyone has a one! It is like the old fad of text messaging or myspace, which yes I use to have-but of course got rid of. I like the idea of a blog, staying in touch with family and friends, minus the addictiveness... who knows, maybe I won't get addicted?! But I thought I would give it a try-so here goes!

A blog. What to write?

Lets see, life. Yeah, that is a great topic. Lately I have been thinking about how much I love my life. I am so blessed in many ways. I am married to the sweetest guy in the world, Caleb. I cherish every day I get to spend with him. We have a cozy little condo in Saratoga Springs...We have heat to keep us warm in this crazy Utah weather, food to eat, our health etc! We have 2 amazing families who love and support us. We have stable jobs at this hard economic time when so many people are without work. We truly are so blessed. I don't know about you, but sometimes I get caught up feeling sorry for myself-for really dumb reasons...but then if you just take a second and think of everything you have...you realize that they are the important things. So take a minute to think of the little things you are grateful for in your life...you will end up feeling true happiness =) Well I think that is enough blogging for me tonight..
